Constellation Curriculum System
The university offers a one-of-its-kind MA program in English. It offers academic flexibility and provides the students the framework to choose the courses and the degree they graduate with. The Constellation Curriculum System provides the students admission to a general MA program and further facilitates them to choose their courses from an extensive constellation of courses.
The program gives students opportunity and freedom to explore and to figure out their interests. It follows the credit-based choice system. The MA Constellation Curriculum System cuts across schools and departments and the student can exit with one of the following degrees dependent on the credits and the courses done as per the program stipulations. Just as stars form unique constellations based on how they are connected, the system provides students the freedom to design their own academic journey, choosing courses aligned with their intellectual interests and professional aspirations.
To earn a specific degree, you need to fulfill the credit requirements specified under the degree. The degree that you are awarded at the end of the program will depend on the courses you opt for in the four semesters of study. For instance, if you have done the stipulated number of courses from the menu of Linguistics and have earned the stipulated number of credits for the M.A. Linguistics degree, you will be awarded a degree in M.A. Linguistics. Therefore, it is necessary that you choose courses carefully.
Students may choose to graduate with a General M.A. in English by earning the prescribed 80 credits across four semesters. Alternatively, students may opt to pursue a Specialization by selecting a cluster of advanced courses in a chosen domain and completing 20 specialization credits in two years.

Credit requirements
A student registered for the 2-year M.A. programme needs to do a minimum of 80 credits across the four semesters of study. This would roughly translate to 6 courses per semester. Each course has its own credit stipulations which need to be fulfilled in order to earn a particular degree. In the case of the M.A. Constellation programme, a student will be required to decide, at the beginning of the first semester, the degree he/she wishes to get. The Coordinator of the MA Constellation programme will check, guide and advise the student regarding the requirements.
Following the National Education Policy 2020, from the academic year 2022-23, “students benefit from qualification in a foreign language or an Indian language, and get useful introduction to courses from technology, engineering, mathematics, social sciences, business studies and other allied fields/disciplines, referred to as STEM courses”. The aim is to provide a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to education and develop critical thinking, versatility, adaptability, problem solving, flexibility, and analytical and communication skills in the students. The M.A. programme has a new research orientation with the inclusion of a course in research methodology, and a dissertation in the final semester. A student is required to do a dissertation in the fourth semester. The dissertation will fetch the student 5 credits. The following sections list the programme specific outcomes, the credit requirements, and courses offered for each of the M.A. programmes.
M.A. English (through the Constellation mode)
M.A. General English is a programme where a student takes courses from English Language Teaching, Linguistics, and Literature, without specializing in any one of them. Therefore, the credits should come from all these disciplines.
