PROFESSOR (DR.) RAKESH MOHAN SHARMA

Dr. Rakesh Mohan Sharma, Advisor (Forensics),Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala holds M.Sc. and PhD degrees in Forensic Science. Dr. Sharma had been a Member of Explosives Standards Working Group of US Department of Home Land Security. His research interests include characterization of drugs, explosives and allied substances, beside this Dr. Sharma worked in multidimensional complex science involved in determining whether a suspect’s voice truly matches forensic speech samples, collected by law enforcement and counter-terrorism agencies, which are associated with the commission of a terrorist act or other crimes. Prof. Sharma has 75 research publications and nine PhDs to his credit. Prof. Sharma had served Member, Forensic Questioned Document Examiners Regulatory Authority, Department of Home, Govt of Punjab.
He has visited Central Laboratory of Police Prefecture, Ministry of Interior, France, Paris. Prof. Sharma has been invited by the Australian Federal Police to speak on "Countering IED", at Australian Bomb Data Centre, Annual Conference, (17-19 November 2010) Canberra, Australia. Dr. Sharma Visited National Centre of Forensic Studies, Chemical Security Risk Assessment Unit, Attorney Generals Department and National Forensic and Data Centre at Canberra and Scene of Crime Branch and Bomb Disposal Unit of NSW Police Force, Sydney, Australia and deliberated and discussed about the advancement of Forensic Science. Prof. Sharma has been active in advancing Forensic Science as a tool against Terrorism.
He was superannuated on 31st December 2019 as Professor of Forensic Science & Dean, Faculty of Physical Sciences from Punjabi University, Patiala, Punjab. During his 3 decades of university service, Dr. Sharma has held the positions of Chairman, Department of Forensic Science, Provost of the university, Associate Dean (Research), Dean faculty of Physical Sciences, Director (Planning and Monitoring) and Technical Advisor, Sophisticated Instruments Centre.
Professor Sharma apart from being a Forensic Scientist and Expert of International repute in the characterization of explosives, drugs of abuse and allied substances, has been actively involved in various Central and State level selection, evaluation and examination panels. Professor Sharma is Honorary Advisor (Forensic Science) Union Public Service Commission, New Delhi, Punjab Public Service Commission, Rajasthan Public Service Commission, Ajmer and Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission, Indore. Dr. Sharma assisted the Commissions in the recruitment of Scientists and Gazetted officer in the Central and State Forensic organizations.
He is in the Expert panel of National Testing Agency, MHRD, New Delhi for National Eligibility Test (NET). Professor Sharma has conducted various University Entrance Examinations as Observer. He has been a Paper Setter in the subject of Forensic Science for various Central and State Universities.
Professor Sharma has served member of various governing bodies and academic and administrative committees of the University namely Senate and Syndicate, Departmental Academic and Administrative Committee, Board of Post Graduate Studies in Physical Sciences, Board of Post Graduate Studies and Research and Research Award Committee.
He has served as convener of various enquiry committees connected with disciplinary and other administrative matters of the University. He has been in the Editorial Board of several National and Inter-National Research Journals.
Professor Sharma has a wide and comprehensive experience in Academic, Research and Administrative activities.
